World record postcard posting attempt!
An audacious attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for the
most postcards posted in one location in one day is being mounted by the
South Nottinghamshire village of Keyworth on 14 July 2010. The idea is
to wrest the current record of 5,216 from the Indian town of Tamilnadu.
Previous record-holders were towns in the U.S.A. and China, so it may be
the time for the honour to come to the U.K. A number of commemorative
postcards - 20 so far - have been sponsored by local clubs and businesses,
each carrying a special village ‘windmill’ logo and text. Themes covered
include Post Office, Cricket Club, Tennis Club, Choir, U3A and Rotary. Every
card posted on 14 July will get a souvenir handstamp, to be used on that
day only, to make the cards extra collectable. Cards are
being sold at 30p each (65p with stamp) to raise money for equipment for
a proposed new teen adventure park in Keyworth. They are
available from Keyworth Post Office, Sainsbury’s or Budgen’s.
